trapped - 2012.01.24

We all live in a house on fire, no fire department to call; no way out, just the upstairs window to look out of while the fire burns the house down with us trapped, locked in it.
~ Tennessee Williams

we are all pinned down by the choices we make.  a brash decision, a missed opportunity, a momentary lapse in judgement, or even a choice that seemed brilliant at the time, can create unintended consequences in our lives that has us feeling trapped and unable to proceed in the direction we want.

we are what we have chosen to do with our lives, and even when we choose not to make a choice, our indecision itself is a choice.  we have no choice but to choose and live with the consequences of our choosing whether we like it or not.

then again, we could choose to leave the present circumstances of our lives and strive for something else, but that is probably what got us into this whole mess in the first place: a decision to act without fully understanding and knowing what the outcome of our choice would be.

even the ability to fully know what awaits our decisions will not save us: that knowledge will weigh heavily on us as we decide what path to take.

freedom is overrated.  it is a cage that has ensnared us all.

(it's been a crazy time at work, and all the insanity at the office has me going a little insane too.  sometimes, you just need a break.  other people go for a smoke.  i ruminate.  to each his own.)
